Kleinlein Receives Rich Brenner Life Leader Award
August 10, 2011
Greensboro, N.C. – At a luncheon today at Bridger Field House in Winston-Salem, Rich Brenner awarded the Rich Brenner Life Leader Award to Red Kleinlein, a volunteer assistant football coach for East Forsyth High School in Kernersville. The Life Leader Award was created in 2008 and is named after Brenner, former FOX8 sports director and esteemed broadcaster. It is given annually as part of the NewBridge Bank Invitational Football and Cheerleading Jamboree and recognizes an outstanding member of the Jamboree community who overcomes personal obstacles to be a role model for students.
Kleinlein has volunteered as an assistant football coach at East Forsyth High School for the last four years. Todd Willert, teacher and head football coach at East Forsyth, nominated Kleinlein and said, "We are so blessed to have Red on our staff. We could not ask for a better role model to help mentor the young men we coach everyday. The stories and lessons he brings to the locker room are invaluable." Kleinlein and his wife moved to North Carolina in 1989. He coached at East Alamance, Glenn, North Forsyth, and Southwest Guilford High Schools before becoming a volunteer assistant coach at East Forsyth.
Jim Grobe, head football coach for Wake Forest University, was also honored at the luncheon which was sponsored by Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP. Named Honorary Chairman of the 2011 NewBridge Bank Invitational Football and Cheerleading Jamboree, Grobe was also the guest speaker addressing a group of 110 coaches and administrators from the high schools participating in the Jamboree.
The NewBridge Bank Invitational Football and Cheerleading Jamboree is the largest fund-raising effort led by NewBridge Bank each year. The Jamboree includes a premier cheerleading competition (held Aug. 4) and preseason football scrimmages scheduled for Friday, Aug. 12. The Bank underwrites all the events so that one hundred percent of the proceeds benefit the athletic programs of the participating high schools. Since the Jamboree's inception in 1999, NewBridge Bank has awarded over $470,000 to local high schools.
For the first time, NewBridge Bank has expanded the Jamboree into Forsyth County, adding four schools and Forsyth Football Scrimmages presented by Champion at Mount Tabor High School in Winston-Salem. The four new high schools are all from Forsyth County and include Carver, Glenn, Mount Tabor and Reagan.
As in years past, the Bank will also host Football Scrimmages at West Davidson High School in Lexington and Rockingham County High School in Reidsville. Each site will feature eight local high schools' varsity and junior varsity football teams. Gates to all three sites will open at 5 p.m., with the first scrimmages kicking off at 6 p.m. Tickets to each event are $5 at the door with free admission for children ages six and under.
